Receiving Pet Payments (Sellers)

How do I enable Pet Payments and set a deposit?

Great news! Pet Payments are automatically available to all eligible sellers, so you don’t have to turn anything on yourself.

If you’d like to take a deposit, you can set this up when you:

  • Create a new advert,
  • Edit an existing advert, or
  • Send or accept a Pet Payment request in chat.

Simply look for the deposit option in your advert’s price settings. You can enter the amount you’d like, and we’ll let you know if it needs to be adjusted (we set a maximum deposit based on the total price of your pet).

How do I send a Pet Payment request?

When you’ve found the right buyer for your pet, you can invite them to pay safely through Pet Payments.

  1. If this is your first time using Pet Payments, you’ll be asked to verify your ID and bank details with our secure partner, Stripe. Don’t worry - it only takes a few minutes, and you’ll only do this once.
  2. In your chat thread with the buyer, click “Invite to Purchase.”
  3. Confirm the total price and deposit (you can adjust these if needed - for example, if you’re selling more than one puppy in the litter).
  4. The buyer will get a notification in chat and by email with your request. They’ll then be able to choose to pay in full or just the deposit.

As soon as the buyer pays a deposit, it’s transferred to your bank account. The balance is held securely until the buyer clicks “Confirm collection” at pick-up.

How do I accept a Pet Payment request from a buyer?

Sometimes, buyers will be the ones to make the request. You’re always in control - you can choose to accept or decline.

  • You’ll get notified in chat (and by email) if a buyer sends a request.
  • Click “Accept request.” You’ll have the chance to adjust the total price and deposit if you need to.
  • If it’s your first time receiving payment, you’ll go through the quick one-time Stripe ID and bank check.
  • Once accepted, the buyer will be prompted to pay.

Just like when you send a request, deposits are paid out to you right away, and the balance is safely held until the buyer confirms collection.

How do I decline a Pet Payment request?

You can decline any request that doesn’t feel right. The buyer will be notified automatically, but we also recommend sending a quick message in chat to explain - this keeps things polite and clear.

Tip: For your and your pet’s safety, don’t accept Pet Payments from buyers you haven’t met or who haven’t visited your pet in person yet.

When will I receive my Pet Payment?

Once a buyer pays, here’s when you can expect the money to hit your account:

TypeWhen should you receive it?
Deposit (if enabled)Usually instantly. In rare cases, it may take up to 2 working days.
Remaining balanceAfter the buyer clicks “Confirm collection” in chat at pick-up (usually instant, but can take up to 2 working days).

Important: Once the buyer has clicked Confirm collection and you’ve received our confirmation email, you must complete the rehoming. Even if the funds haven’t shown in your bank yet, the payment has gone through. If there’s ever a delay, click the Report button in chat and our team will help ensure the transfer goes through.

For full details, always review the Pet Payment Terms & Conditions.
