How do I send a Pet Payment request?

Here are the steps to send a request to reserve a pet:

  1. Contact the seller using Lancaster Puppies chat.
  2. If you haven’t already messaged the seller, you’ll be asked to complete a short Buyer Profile so the seller can learn more about you.
  3. In your chat thread with the seller, click the “Request to Purchase” button.
  4. After you submit your request, you’ll see a confirmation in the chat.

Note: Requesting to purchase does not guarantee the pet. Sellers may receive multiple requests. Once the seller accepts your request and you complete payment, your reservation is secured.


What does it mean if a seller invites me to make a Pet Payment?

Sellers can also invite you to pay if they think you’re a good match. You’ll receive a notification in chat and by email that you’ve been asked to make a Pet Payment to reserve the pet. Follow the payment steps below.


How do I complete the payment once I am asked to pay?

Once your request is accepted, or the seller sends you a request, it’s time to complete payment to secure your new pet. You can pay the full amount or just the deposit first. Any deposit amount set by the seller is paid out to them immediately. The remaining balance is held safely and released when you confirm collection of your new pet.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the Lancaster Puppies chat between you and the seller.
  2. Select the payment option in chat to go to the payment page.
  3. Choose one of the options below and complete payment:

Deposit first, balance later

  • You pay your deposit and the Pet Payments fee to reserve your pet. The deposit is transferred to the seller immediately, confirming your reservation.
  • You pay the remaining balance before pick-up/collection.
  • If you cancel before paying the balance, your deposit is not refundable (except in limited circumstances set out in the Pet Payment Terms).

Full payment

  • You pay the entire amount upfront. The deposit is transferred to the seller immediately, confirming your reservation.
  • We hold the remaining balance safely and release it after you confirm collection in chat.

After payment, you’ll receive an email receipt and your chat thread will update to show your payment status.

What if I forget to pay the remaining balance?

We will send you reminders to assist, but if the balance isn’t paid on time, your reservation may be cancelled.


Should I view the pet before making a Pet Payment?

We recommend viewing the pet (and the mother, for puppies) at least once before collection so you can confirm it’s a good match and review relevant paperwork.


How do I confirm the collection of my pet?

The final step is to release the remaining balance to the seller when you collect your pet in person - not before.

  1. Open the Lancaster Puppies chat with the seller.
  2. Click the “Confirm collection” button only after you have physically received the pet.

That’s it! The seller will receive the remaining balance and you can focus on welcoming your new pet home.
